Reflection: Learning Objectives
- Due No Due Date
- Points 0
Outcome 1b: Write specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and tailored course objectives for the course you are designing.
Purpose
Research and our own experiences tell us that clearly measurable objectives can provide students with a helpful manner to self-assess their progress in your course. They're also a valuable foundational component in structuring an online course.
Details
For this exercise we would like you to reflect on your own goals and objectives. How are you hoping to see your students develop during your course? Following the structure in the previous pages, complete Phases 1 & 2 of the Course Planning Grid (as either an Excel spreadsheet or Word doc) with your module structure, module objectives, and alignment with course goals. Generally, online courses are structured using one module per week, which would mean 16 modular objectives for a traditional semester-long course. If this structure doesn't work for your particular course, use as many modules as makes sense for you!
Submission
Complete Phases 1 & 2 of the Course Planning Grid (either the Excel or Word version). If you've gone through a similar thought process with a different structure than we've outlined in the course planning grid that's perfectly fine. We're more interested in the consideration you're putting into structuring your own course than getting you to express that structure in a particular manner.
If your course is structured such that weekly modules are not a sensible approach, just leave a comment alongside your submission that explains why you chose your particular module structure to help us in provide useful feedback.
Note about this course:
This assignment was designed for the full version of the SIOT course. Since this version is just designed to give you resources, you cannot upload an assignment submission. However, if you are interested in getting feedback on your work, feel free to contact your instructional designer. This website has contact information for the instructional designer assigned to your department.
