If a Student is Experiencing Financial Issues

As a land-grant institution committed to access, UNL enrolls many students who struggle to fully fund their education. If you have a student who has a financial hold on course registration or who is expressing concerns about finances, please refer him/her to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in 12 Canfield Administration Building. Students can contact OSFA Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 402-472-2030 or at financialaid@unl.edu. Students can also visit on a walk-in basis or schedule an appointment with a financial aid advisor through MyPLAN. OSFA can offer financial aid advising, including the completion of paperwork for federal financial aid and, when appropriate, provide short-term emergency aid. The Office of Student Accounts may also be able to assist students who consult with them while financial assistance is being sorted out and can be reached at 402-472-2887.

If you have a student who has expressed food or shelter insecurity, the Huskers Helping Huskers Pantry is located in room 348 of the Nebraska Union. By simply scanning their Ncard, students can receive free food and hygiene items. Information about community resources for housing and other food assistance programs are also available. In addition, the Husker Hub is a one-stop student services center that provides assistance with financial aid, scholarships, student billing, enrollment verification, and other essential support for navigating university finances and registration.

Many outside organizations offer scholarships that are not necessarily affiliated with the University. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid compiles a list of these programs for the convenience of students. We encourage students to review the list occasionally throughout the year and considering applying.
