What is important about academic integrity?

Did you know that in a 2017 survey by Kessler International, 86% of students report that they cheated in school and 97% report that they were never caught? The slides below are from a recent webinar collaboration between the College of Business and the College of Engineering, where we discussed academic integrity.

Academic Honesty

The College of Business is committed to training and developing ethical leaders. Academic integrity is fundamental to this commitment. College of Business students are held to the standards set by the UNL Student Code of Conduct. In the Student Code of Conduct, acts of dishonesty are specified as, but not limited to: cheating, fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, falsifying grade reports, impermissible collaboration, or misrepresentation to avoid academic work.

In order to protect academic integrity in the college, assessments (exams and quizzes) should be proctored. Assessments can be proctored in class, online, or through the Digital Learning Center Exam Commons (DLC). Instructor policies for exams administered through the DLC are available online. For exams offered online outside of the DLC, the college has negotiated per course or per exam fee rates and provides support for faculty and students using ProctorU. ProctorU is an online exam proctoring service with live and recorded proctor monitoring via webcam and screen capture. To detect plagiarism on papers and other written assignments, the university has integrated Turnitin into Canvas.

It is highly recommended that the total percentage of the final grade earned through unproctored assessments should not exceed 25% and no single unproctored assessment should exceed 10% of the course grade.
