Introduction

Canvas can be liberating, but it can also present roadblocks. Many content creation tasks are ridiculously simple in Canvas, when compared to other LMSs. The system is also relatively easy to connect to external tools and platforms. But sometimes you need additional functionality, and the standard UI just doesn't seem to support it.

Here are three problems that we've run into as instructional designers that we struggled with in Canvas:

Managing common content across multiple courses, and updating it in real time.
Quickly gathering simple feedback from users, at the point where they are interacting with content.
Helping students to reinforce their learning by asking simple self-check questions without hauling out the Quiz tool.

In the next few pages, we'll share our solutions with you. We hope you find them as useful as we have.
